The history of Serrazzano, a village that grew up around a castle built by the Lombards, is similar to that of Pomarance, Pisa and Volterra, at least until the Middle Ages, with Etruscan and Roman origins. Serrazzano still retains the characteristic features of a medieval village and offers pleasant routes in the characteristic streets and along the walls that still remain on the south-east side.
Pomarance is a village in the Val di Cecina and is located in the centre of the ‘Devil’s Valley’ (Valle del Diavolo), which is strongly characterised by the blueberry fumaroles found in the area. In the historic centre of the village, you can admire the three gates and the 12th-century Piazza San Dalmazio. In addition to the perfectly preserved building, the Casa Bicocchi Museum houses the permanent exhibition Warriors and Craftsmen, which presents archaeological finds discovered in the Val di Cecina area from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages.
In the surroundings there are two nature reserves: the Berignone Forest Nature Reserve and the Monterufoli-Caselli Nature Reserve, rich in forests and thickets inhabited by numerous animals and rich in trails that can be explored on foot, some on horseback, and even on mountain bike.
The Berignone Forest and Monterufoli-Caselli Nature Reserves, a few kilometres away, invite you to discover a breathtaking landscape full of forests, trails and panoramic views. These reserves, which can be explored on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike, are a true paradise for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers.
