Pitigliano is a village in the south of the Maremma carved out of tuff. It stands on a promontory at 313 metres above sea level and is lined with green valleys forded by the Lente and Meleta rivers.

This beautiful village has gone down in history as the “little Jerusalem” because it was home to a large and very active Jewish community from the 15th century onwards.
Before entering the labyrinth of narrow streets, you will pass by the Palazzo Orsini, an imposing building of Aldobrand origin. It was renovated by the Orsini family in the 15th and 16th centuries and now houses two museums: Museo Civico Archeologico and Museo di Palazzo Orsini.
As you leave the city, you can discover the fascinating Vie Cave, passages carved into the tuff rock by the Etruscan civilisation. Some are over a kilometre long and their walls reach up to 20 metres high.
